Privacy Policy

The short version: Sidekick extracts business information from Google Maps only when you use it. Everything you collect stays on your device unless you choose to export it to a file or to your own Google Sheet. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising. Last updated June 12, 2026.

1. Who we are

Shakvaro Sidekick is built by Shakvaro (Chattogram, Bangladesh). Questions about this policy can go to privacy@shakvaro.com. Our backend (license validation and optional telemetry) runs at https://shakvaro.cloud.

2. What Sidekick is

Sidekick is a Chrome Manifest V3 extension that helps you collect public business information from Google Maps pages and export it to CSV, Excel (XLSX), or your own Google Sheet. It only reads pages you navigate to yourself — there is no background or headless scraping.

3. What the extension accesses

When you use Sidekick on Google Maps, it may read the business information already visible on the page, including:

  • Business name, category, address, phone number, website, rating, review count, price level, opening hours, open-now status, plus code, latitude/longitude, and the Google Maps URL.
  • The Maps search query or place-page URL associated with the result.
  • Folders, sessions, and lists you create inside the extension, plus your settings (extraction quality, throttle timing, side-panel preference, telemetry choice).

4. What stays on your device

Stored locally on your device via chrome.storage.local:

  • All extracted business data — every place you collect. It is never sent to a Shakvaro server.
  • Sessions, folders, settings, license status, and quota counts.

If you export to CSV or XLSX, the file is downloaded by your browser to the location you choose. Nothing about that file is sent to us.

5. What leaves your device, and where it goes

There are only three destinations, and you control all of them:

  • Your own Google account (optional Sheets export):if you push rows to Google Sheets, the extension uses Chrome's OAuth flow to send the rows you choose to a sheet in your Google account. It uses drive.file (per-file) access — it can only touch sheets it creates or that you explicitly pick, and cannot see the rest of your Drive. This data goes to your Google account, never to Shakvaro.
  • License validation (shakvaro.cloud): if you activate a paid license, the extension will send your license key, an anonymous installId, and the extension version to https://shakvaro.cloud to confirm license status. No business data and no Google data would be sent here. If you never activate a license, no such request is made.
  • Optional drift telemetry (opt-in, off by default):telemetry is disabled unless you choose to turn it on. If enabled, the extension would report selector "misses" — the name of a field that failed to parse and the Maps URL where it happened — so we can fix layout changes. No extracted business rows are ever uploaded. Leave it off and Sidekick works exactly the same.

6. Identifiers

The only identifier we use is an anonymous installId — a random value generated locally to tie a license to an install and to deduplicate telemetry. It is not tied to your name, email, or Google identity. We do not collect any personal information about you.

7. You control the data you collect

Because extracted business data never touches Shakvaro servers and lives only on your machine or in your own Google Sheet, you are the data controller for everything you collect. Some of it (business phone numbers, individual practitioner names) can be personal data. When you collect and use such data, your own obligations under laws like GDPR and CCPA apply — please use it responsibly and lawfully.

8. Permissions and why they are used

  • storage — save your collected places, folders, settings, and license status locally.
  • identity — Google OAuth sign-in, only when you choose to push to Google Sheets.
  • tabs — detect the active Maps tab and send capture commands to it.
  • alarms — schedule the periodic license re-check and optional telemetry upload.
  • sidePanel — show the side-panel UI.
  • contextMenus— the right-click "save place" menu item.
  • Host access to google.com/maps and maps.google.com — read the Maps page you are viewing.
  • Host access to googleapis.com / sheets.googleapis.com — list your spreadsheets and append rows during Sheets export.
  • Host access to shakvaro.cloud — license validation and optional telemetry.

There is no <all_urls>permission — Sidekick cannot read your browsing history or any site other than Google Maps and Google's own APIs.

OAuth scopes: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets (read/write the spreadsheets you push to) and https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file (per-file access only). You can revoke access any time from your Google account permissions page.

9. What the extension does NOT do

  • Does not collect passwords or authentication credentials.
  • Does not collect payment card numbers or financial account information.
  • Does not collect health information or personal communications.
  • Does not read your browsing history outside the Google Maps pages where it runs.
  • Does not sell or share your data, use it for advertising, or track you across sites.
  • Does not upload your extracted business rows — except to your own Google Sheet when you explicitly export.

10. Data retention and deletion

Your data remains on your device until you delete it. You can remove it by:

  • Clearing sessions, folders, or results inside the extension,
  • Removing/uninstalling the extension (clears all locally stored data), or
  • Revoking Google access from your Google account permissions page to stop any Sheets export.

If you activate a paid license, we retain the associated license and anonymous install records for as long as needed to operate that license.

11. Children's privacy

Sidekick is a business-productivity tool, is not directed to children under 13, and does not knowingly collect information from children.

12. Not affiliated with Google

Sidekick is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google. Google Maps, Google Sheets, and Google Drive are trademarks of Google LLC. Your use of Google services is governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy.

13. Changes to this policy

If the extension's data handling changes, we will update this policy and revise the "Last updated" date above.
