1. What Blokair is
Blokair is an Android app that blocks ads, trackers, malware, and phishing domains at the DNS level. It runs as a local VPN on your device so it can inspect and filter DNS requests. There is no remote Blokair server, your network traffic never leaves your phone and is never sent to us. Because of this design, we are physically unable to see your browsing.
2. What we don't collect
This is the heart of the policy. Blokair does not collect:
- No account, Blokair has no sign-up, login, or user profile.
- No browsing history or DNS query logs sent off your device.
- No personal information (name, email, phone, location, contacts).
- No advertising identifiers and no third-party analytics or ad SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of personal data, there is none to sell.
3. How it works (the technical truth)
When you connect, Blokair starts an on-device VPN interface and intercepts DNS lookups. Allowed lookups are forwarded over DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH), encrypted, to the public resolver you choose. Lookups that match an on-device blocklist (ads, trackers, malware, phishing) are dropped before they resolve. Blocklists are bundled with or downloaded into the app and evaluated locally.
4. Data stored on your device only
To power live stats and the activity log, Blokair stores the following locally on your device. It is never transmitted to us:
- Counts of queries seen and blocked, block rate, and bytes saved.
- A recent activity log of blocked and allowed domains.
- Your settings, chosen DNS provider, theme, and toggles.
You can clear this data at any time from within the app, or by clearing the app's storage / uninstalling. When it's gone, it's gone, we hold no copy.
5. Third parties
Blokair itself has no backend, but two third parties are inherently involved:
- Your chosen DNS resolver. Encrypted DNS lookups go to the public resolver you select. Their handling of those lookups is governed by their own privacy policy:
- Google Play. If you install via the Play Store, Google may collect install and diagnostic metrics under Google's privacy policy. This is standard for any Android app and is outside Blokair's control.
6. Permissions we use
- VPN service. Required to filter DNS on-device. It is not a tunnel to our servers, there is no remote endpoint. We do not inspect, store, or transmit the contents of your traffic.
- Network access. Used to forward your encrypted DNS lookups to your chosen resolver and to update blocklists.
Blokair does not request access to contacts, location, camera, microphone, storage of your files, or any other sensitive permission.
7. Children
Blokair is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, including children. Because the app collects no personal data at all, it poses no specific risk to children's privacy.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change how Blokair handles data, we'll update this page and revise the date above. Material changes will be reflected in the app's Play Store listing and, where relevant, in the app itself.
